The Ferris wheel is a common sight at fairs, carnivals, theme parks, and other attractions. Sometimes called "revolving observation wheels," Ferris wheels consist of ridable open or enclosed cars that travel the circumference of a large upright wheel.
Do you know why this ride is called a Ferris wheel? Well, "Ferris" is always capitalized because it is a name. George Ferris built the first Ferris wheel for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, United States, in 1893. Its design was based on much smaller "pleasure wheels" used in Europe since the 1600s, and Somer's Wheel, a 50-foot wooden wheel built in New Jersey, United States in 1892.
Over a hundred years after their creation, Ferris wheels continue to make history. In 1999, the Millenium Wheel or London Eye in London, England, became the world's tallest Ferris wheel at 443 feet (135 meters). In 2006, its height was surpassed by the Star of Nanchang in China; in 2008 by the Singapore Flyer; and in 2014 by the High Roller in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The High Roller is 550 feet (167.6 meters) tall.

Below this, use curved lines to draw a cuplike shape. Connect the two shapes using curved lines. Give the car a three-dimensional appearance by drawing a curved line along one side. Erase as necessary.
